By nature, most all plants are attracted to sunlight and they will naturally grow in that direction. Keeping your flower beds topped with between 2-3 inches of mulch at all times will create a shady barrier in your bed and discourage grass from invading. PRO: Mulch is readily available and reasonably inexpensive.
